April 04--Evidence suggests the fire that destroyed the shuttered Key Largo Casino was started intentionally, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said in a report released today.
Officials didn't say what the evidence is but have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the blaze.
The fire was reported about 3:05 p.m. March 28 and caused about $4.5 million damage to the building at 377 Flamingo Road.
In all, 117 firefighters were called to fight the fire; two were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No civilians were injured.
The Key Largo closed in 2005 to make room for what was supposed to be a condominium tower, but those plans never took root.
The building was constructed in 1974 and has been abandoned since about 2007. Clark County records show the property is owned by CABI Flamingo LLC.
On Friday, Clark County issued an order that the building be demolished by April 26.
