A neighbor tried, but couldn't save four children from a blazing house in Pensacola Thursday morning.
"All I saw was smoke, but I still went in and all I saw was a blaze from the middle of the house," Marlow Stripling told The Pensacola News Journal.
"I heard them hollering, but I just didn't know where they were at. I heard them twice.. and after the third time I didn't heard them anymore." he told reporters.
He couldn't make his way to the bedroom through the flames. After about two minutes, the heat became too overwhelming, and he went outside and circled around to the rear of the house. He attempted to go in through a back window, but the flames were too intense.
The children were Kayvyana, 2, Keyonna, 11 months, Jeremy, 5, and Michael, 11.
"It's just, it was painful. To hear them and you can't do nothing aboutit..."
Shrell Gray, the children's aunt, was grateful that Stripling tried.
The cause remains under investigation.
