A father and two children were transported to Dell Seton, and 10 people have been displaced after an early morning apartment fire, according to officials with the Austin Fire Department.
The father sustained burns and lacerations from breaking out a window to escape the fire with the two children, fire officials said.
The children were transported to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation, according to fire officials.
Fire officials said the fire to a first floor apartment at the Woodland Heights Apartments, 8312 N. Interstate 35, was accidental, caused by unattended cooking. The fire broke out sometime after 3 a.m., causing about $40,000 worth of damage, according to fire officials.
There were no working smoke detectors in the apartment, fire officials said.
