Maryland Firefighter Rescued from Blaze

The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

BOWIE, Md. --

Prince George's County firefighters were called to battle a blaze in Bowie on Monday morning.

The fire broke out at a house in the 6400 block of Gwinnett Lane shortly before 10 a.m.

Once at the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the house.

Firefighters began extinguishing the fire and a short time later, one firefighter fell through the first floor of the house to the basement.

Other firefighters were able to rescue that firefighter from the basement of the burning house.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

No one else was injured.

There has been no word on what caused the fire.

The incident remains under investigation.
