Passaic, NJ, July 23, 2017—The Passaic, NJ, Fire Department responded to a working fire in a pizza shop. Access to the fire was delayed by roll-up security doors. Once they were opened, companies encountered heavy fire and smoke throughout the shop, with fire already extending to the upper floors. Deteriorating conditions led command to order all members out of the building. The fire eventually reached seven alarms. Seven aerial streams, one deck gun and numerous handlines and ground monitors were put into operation, and the main body of fire was knocked down almost 2½ hours after the initial alarm. Crews successfully prevented the fire from spreading past the building of origin.
