FDNY firefighters rescued multiple residents from the fire escapes of a six-story East Village building that caught fire early this morning, according to NY1.
Crews responded to the fire at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Fourth Street and Second Avenue in a building housing the East Village Grocery Farm Store and several apartments above.
"We had multiple occupants on the fire escapes on arrival, and units did a very nice job of laddering the building and removing these people off the fire escapes, while they were fighting the fire at the same time," FDNY Battalion Chief Joseph Ferrante told the news station.
The fire was under control by just after 5 a.m. and seven people were treated for minor injuries.
It's believed the fire started in the grocery store.
