Sun Prairie, Wis. --
One person is dead, two people were seriously injured and a Sun Prairie neighborhood was being evacuated after a house explosion early Tuesday morning.
Multiple calls came in to Dane County dispatcher just after 3:20 a.m. to report an explosion on Coral Drive, according to county officials. Dispatchers originally said it occurred in the 1200 block of Coral Drive, but now say the explosion happened in the 110 block of Coral Drive.
Officials said one male was killed and two other people in the home were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials suspect the explosion was caused by a gas leak and utility company WE Energies is at the location working to shut off gas to the entire neighborhood. Officials said it is a complicated process and they don't know how long it will take.
Sun Prairie police are letting residents who lived near the explosion back into their homes. Residents of 14 homes on Pearl Lane, Coral Drive, Garnet Drive and Beech Street will need a fire deptartment escort to get back to their homes. These residents should check with the Sun Prairie Police Department to figure out how to get access, authorities said..
Many nearby streets will remain closed for some time, authorities said.
Classes at West Side Elementary are closed for the day because of the explosion, officials said.
