ASHTABULA, Ohio --
Fire officials are investigating a suspicious blaze that involved three homes in Ashtabula Saturday night.
A fire broke out at about 11:05 p.m. at a home at 1117 West 37th St. When firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames and had spread to a home across the street at 1100 West 37th St. A third structure at 1034 West 37th St also caught fire due to being exposed to heavy fire conditions coming from the second home.
It took 27 firefighters about three hours to get the blazes under control
The houses were vacant at time of the fires.
Help fighting the fires was given by the Ashtabula Township Fire Department, Saybrook Fire Department and the Geneva Fire Department.
They used about 120,000 gallons of water to bring the three fires under control. The first two homes were total losses and the third home had moderate smoke and fire damage.
Damage on the three structures was estimated at $130,000.
The fires are suspicious and under investigation by the Ashtabula Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau.
