ATLANTA --
For the second weekend in a row and third time this year, Atlanta fire department officials shut down fire stations because of staffing shortages.
Five fire stations across Atlanta were closed Saturday, with Atlanta fire department officials blaming the closures on furloughs forced by budget cuts.
The temporarily closed stations are:
- Station 12 at 1288 DeKalb Ave.
- Station 22 at 817 Hollywood Rd.
- Station 26 at 2970 Howell Mill Rd.
- Station 30 at 10 Cleveland Ave.
- Station 36 at 1335 Kimberly Rd.
The equipment out of service today are trucks 25 and 26, as well as engines 12, 30, 36, 22 and 26.
Last weekend the department closed down six stations because of personnel shortages. On Super Bowl Sunday so many firefighters called in sick, six stations were taken out of service.
Fire department officials said that Saturday 23 firefighters are on furlough and 18 called in sick.
