SPRINGBORO, Ohio --
Saturday, people in the Miami Valley continued efforts to help a local firefighter who was paralyzed in the September wind storm.
John Moore, a 25-year-old Springboro resident, was at a friends home clearing debris when a large tree branch snapped and hit him in the head. The impact injured his spine and left him paralyzed. Moore serves as a firefighter in Kettering.
Volunteers organized a fundraiser at the Shell gas station at State Route 741 and State Route 73 in Springboro. Customers received full-service treatment, food and other donated goodies in exchange for donations to help Moore. Some employees also donated their paychecks.
This is something we can do for him, said Ric Booker, who helped organize Saturdays event. This community here, my owner, the sacrifices, the employees we have here. Its just been awesome.
People can make additional donations at local National City Bank branches.
