An Alaska fire chief died of a medical emergency last month.
Red Dog Mine Fire Chief Robert Chandler, 58, fell ill while teaching a class. Colleagues conducted a medical assessment and found vitals to be within normal limits.
Chandler was found decesed in his quarters the following day, Nov. 27, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
He had served with the fire service for 15 years.
To date 59 firefighters have died while on duty.
