HAMPTON, Iowa --

Two people were killed and four others injured in an apartment fire Saturday afternoon. The fire broke out just before 3:00 p.m. according to firefighters.

The apartment appears to be an older three story home. It is in the Franklin County town of Hampton.

When firefighters arrived Saturday afternoon, many people were trying to escape from a third story apartment window, according to a clerk at a nearby convenience store, but there were two people who did not make it.

A neighbor told Newschannel 8 there were at least three families living in the complex, including several children. The neighbor also said an infant was killed.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The Hampton Police Department said four others were injured, including a firefighter.

The fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross said it will help families displaced by the fire.
