SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. --

A woman and two dogs died early Wednesday in a house fire in Sacramento County, authorities said.

The blaze broke out just after 1 a.m. on Olander Way near Cliffcrest Drive.

Investigators were called to the house to figure out if the blaze was accidental or intentional.

"Everything's on the table at this point," said Capt. Jeff Lynch, spokesman for Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

A man in the two-story home at the time the blaze started said he heard a smoke detector and raced through the home to wake six other residents. Those living in the home called it an independent living facility.

Even with 41 firefighters at the scene, the flames proved too intense to save the woman who died. Her name was not immediately available.

The Red Cross also came out to help the displaced residents.
