BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. --

An 83-year-old woman died in a house explosion in Bloomfield Township on Saturday.

The explosion happened at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Long Lake and Telegraph roads.

Investigators said the cause of the blast was likely a natural gas explosion.

The windows of the house were blown out and landed across the street. The roof collapsed and the house caught fire, trapping the woman inside.

"We could hear her calling for help," said fire Chief Dave Piche. "We just kind of tracked down where her voice was at and got her out of the house."

Firefighters said they found the woman under debris near the fireplace. She was taken to an area hospital where she later died.

Neighbors as far as a half-mile away said they could hear the blast.

"It shook my entire house and blew my side garage door open," said neighboor Jessica Koon. "It's very heartbreaking."
