A Detroit firefighter was injured while battling a blaze on the city's west side Thursday morning.
Fire crews were called to a two-story house located at Dexter and Webb streets. A firefighter was extinguishing a fire on the roof, when he lost his footing on the shingles and fell, Local 4 learned.
Detroit Fire Chief Ron Winchester said the firefighter was "very lucky on his fall."
The firefighter sustained a broken arm when he grabbed the gutter on his way down. Winchester said he believes the gutter helped the firefighter slow down his fall.
"I guess if you could have a good fall, that's the one," said Winchester. "He landed on his feet."
The firefighter was listed in good condition.
Fire crews said nobody was inside the house at the time of the fire.
