Pittsburgh Fire Claims Mother, Son

An elderly mother and her 56-year-old son died in the early-morning fire.

PITTSBURGH --

An elderly mother who died in an early-morning house fire in Homewood on Friday had a son who later succumbed to his injuries.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office announced Saturday that Kenneth Raiford, 56, died at about 7 p.m. on Friday. He was the son of Cora Raiford, 83, who authorities pronounced dead at the scene at about 5 a.m.

Kenneth Raiford suffered burns in the fire on Kedron Street and was taken to West Penn Hospital.

Firefighters said the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. They were able to bring the fire under control after about two hours.

The roof of a house next door was damaged by the fire.
