PENN HILLS, Pa. --

A fire in Penn Hills claimed a man's life on Monday.

The flames started on Yosemite Drive around 3 p.m., killing 71-year-old Theodore Pryor.

Firefighters said the blaze started with a candle in the living room of the home. When they got to the scene, they knew two people might still be inside.

A neighbor told Channel 11 he had just talked to Pryor. "I went to get my grandson and on the way back I saw black smoke coming out the window. So I just called 911. I knew he was in there. I went around the back and both of there cars were there," neighbor Ron Cox said.

A woman survived the fire. She is at West Penn Hospital in critical condition.

The fire has been ruled an accident.
