WASHINGTON --
District firefighters are on the scene of a fire in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast.
Fire officials said they are working to extinguish a building fire that has extended to an adjacent building.
There have been no reported injuries.
Wilkins said that the firefighters at the scene are fighting the blaze on a rehab schedule, which means they are taking breaks and having to drink water.
News4's Tracee Wilkins reported that the two-alarm fire started in the back of the Capitol Lounge. Fire officials said the fire started in an outside dumpster and spread to the Capitol Lounge building and four other buildings.
Officials are investigating how the fire started in the dumpster.
Wilkins said the fire is the second one at the lounge in two years. She reported that in 2005, a fire was ignited by a cigarette left by an employee. That fire practically destroyed the facility, Wilkins reported.
Eastbound Pennsylvania Avenue between Independence Avenue and Fourth Street has been closed to traffic.
