Two buildings at two different housing complexes in southwest Houston were destroyed by flames Monday, KRPC Local 2 reported.
The inferno broke out at the Memorial Ashford townhomes on Thicket Lane near Memorial Drive at about 5 a.m.
Officials said the fire jumped to a building at a neighboring apartment complex.
Officials with the Houston Fire Department said about 14 units total were ruined.
"It appears to be a total loss," District Chief Tommy Dowdy said.
Fire officials said it appears the fire started in one building and spread to the other.
"The fire started on one end of one of the buildings and ran the building," Dowdy said. "With the amount of the fire, it jumped to the second building."
Officials said they did not have any reports of people missing inside the buildings, but it appeared that all of the units were occupied.
The Houston Fire Department said that about 30 trucks and more than 100 people responded to the fire.
Officials said two firefighters were transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Arson investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
The Red Cross is at the complexes assisting residents with basic needs.
Officials said all of the residents had insurance.
