ORANGEVALE, Calif. --
A house fire causes major damage and leaves two dead Saturday morning in Sacramento County.
It happened around 8:15 on Erwin Avenue southeast of Madison Avenue in Orangevale.
Sacramento Metro Fire official said two people died on scene and one person was transported to Mercy San Juan with moderate burns. The victims are a 91-year-old man and a woman in her 70's. A third man escaped and was in satisfactory condition with 2nd & 3rd degree burns.
Two firefighters were also injured battling the blaze.
The victim's names have not been released, pending official identification. Family and friends tell KCRA that the deceased are the father and wife of the sole survivor.
Investigators discovered there were no working smoke detectors in the older residence.
Christian Pebbles with Sacramento Metro Fire said Saturday night that the official cause of the fire is undetermined, but they are not ruling out cigarettes.
