The firefighters were expected to make a full recovery.

Four firefighters in Sanford are recovering Thursday after being injured fighting an apartment fire.

The firefighters were knocked down by a high-powered hose Wednesday as they battled a blaze at the Sailpointe apartments on Seminole Boulevard in Sanford, officials told Local 6 News.

A neighbor helped people escaped the fire, according to the report.

"I pulled the fire alarm, called 911 and knocked on everybody's door to get them out," resident Brian Decantillon said.

About 40 people were unable to return home after the fire.

The firefighters were expected to make a full recovery after being injured.

The cause of the fire was not known.
