Wife Killed, Husband Burned Pennsylvania Trailer Fire

March 31, 2007
Fire crews said they believe the blaze began in the living room of the 1972 trailer home, which quickly went up in flames.

A woman died and her husband was critically injured after their mobile home caught fire overnight in West Mifflin.

The fire was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Friday near Thompson Run Road.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims.

Fire crews said they believe the blaze began in the living room of the 1972 trailer home, which quickly went up in flames.

Investigators said the husband pounded on neighbor's doors for help, but it was too late.

The husband suffered from second- and third-degree burns, authorities said. The fire marshal said the man also suffered inhalation burns from breathing in the hot air, which caused his airways to swell. Authorities won't be able to question him until sometime next week.

Neighbors said the man's wife was a nice woman who passed out candy and sweets to children in the area.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating.
