Columbus police are trying to determine who stole $1,000 worth of confiscated fireworks from the Columbus Division of Fire.
The fireworks were stored in a secluded shed off Jackson Pike Drive, but investigators said they do not believe the theft was an inside job, NBC 4 reported.
Police said the lock was broken and several pallets of fireworks were taken.
"These fireworks are dangerous (and) highly explosive. If they get into the wrong hands, it could injure or kill someone," said Battalion Chief Doug Smith, of Columbus Division of Fire.
Officials said that even though the shed was locked and the fence around it was locked, thieves have previously broken in to attempt to steal the fireworks.
