A Dayton couple must find a new place to live after a fire took over their apartment.
The fire happened Sunday evening at an apartment building on Burwood Avenue. Fire officials said it appears the flames destroyed much of everything inside the apartment.
Firefighters said it appears that a temporary solution to an electrical problem may be to blame for the fire. They said the couple who lived in the apartment escaped without injury.
Firefighters spend several minutes trying to contain the flames. They worked fast to make sure the fire did not spread to the rest of the building.
Deputy Chief Mark Whisman said it appeared that an overloaded electrical outlet is the cause of the fire. He said there were multiple things plugged into it.
Firefighters said it looks like a damaged electrical outlet on the wall left the couple with a need to use an extension cord. The fire remains under investigation.
