Arkansas Firefighter Escapes Van Explosion

Fort Smith Fire Department Capt. David Lasiter scrambles to avoid an explosion after a 1984 Volkswagen van had caught on fire Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Lasiter was on his knees checking under the back of the van when it exploded, and he lost his helmet.

Joe Fisher, owner of the van, had just recently restored it. No one was hurt in the incident, but the van was destroyed.
