A firefighter was injured in a fire in Coraopolis early Monday morning.

An officer reported seeing a man on fire running out of the bushes in the 1200 block of Elm Alley about 12:30 a.m.

A second officer arrived on scene and reported a structure fire, about 30 feet from the main house.

The 40-year-old victim is homeless, officials said.

Channel 4 Action News reporter Sheldon Ingram said the man was staying in the storage garage on the property against his father's wishes.

He started the fire to keep warm and it got out of control, police said.

The victim suffered burns on over 70 percent of his body and is in an induced coma at Mercy Hospital.

The injured firefighter was also taken to Mercy Hospital.

There is no word on his condition.
