One Savannah woman has been honored for helping save thousands of lives. And now her name will be known as thousands more are saved.

The Southside Fire Department dedicated a custom advanced life support ambulance in honor of one of its employees, Judy Amerson.

Officials say Amerson's knowledge and commitment was instrumental when the Southside Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance services merged in 1997.

The fire department now responds to over 16,000 calls a year.
