A fire forced the evacuation Thursday of an eight-unit apartment building at the Lake Vista Apartments on Northlake Drive.

No one was injured, said Warner Robins fire Lt. Jeff Stewart. The fire, which was contained to a single apartment, remains under investigation.

Hardwick Davis Jr., maintenance supervisor, credited maintenance worker Willie Stanley with spotting the fire and getting everyone out safely. Davis did not know how many people were inside the building when the fire was detected at 11 a.m.

Davis said Stanley was headed to Building 300 to check a refrigerator that wasn't cooling properly when he saw smoke coming from Apt. 307.

The woman who lives in 307 was inside, and Stanley was able to get her and others out of the building, Davis said. The woman, who was outside the building as firefighters battled the small fire, declined to comment.

Steven Haywood, apartment manager, said another apartment is being prepared for the woman. The American Red Cross also was called and is expected to supply food and clothing along with the apartment complex, Haywood said.

Two pumper trucks and one ladder truck were used to battle the fire, said Stewart.
