Baltimore County, MD - Baltimore County Fire Department officials today dedicated $1.2 million worth of new apparatus to serve the county's west side.

Engine 18, a 2002 ALF Eagle with a 1000 gallon tank/1250 gpm Hale pump, and Truck 18, a 2002 E-One 100' tiller, will run out of the Randallstown station. Medic 2, a 2003 International 4300/Wheeled Coach, will operate from the county's Pikesville station.

"We've designed these apparatus from the ground up," said BCoFd Chief John Hohman. Station officers and firefighters played a significant role in the apparatus specs, he said.

Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith said keeping citizens safe "is the first and most important responsibility of government." He Told firefighters, "if you have what you need, county residents will be protected."

Over the past five years, BCoFD has put more than 50 new vehicles into service as part of its replacement program.
