A Mayday was called at a house fire in Springfield Saturday night after a firefighter fell through the third floor.
Fireground transmissions show that a member of Engine 405 reported that the second floor was unstable about a minute before a firefighter with Truck 405 reported that his officer fell through the third floor down to a lower floor.
A member of Rescue Squad 426 can be heard shortly after the Mayday reporting that his crew had located the firefighter and was bringing him through the front door.
The rescued firefighter was transported to a local hospital with non-fire-threatening injuries, Battalion Chief Richard Roatch told The Kingstowne-Rose Hill Patch.
Crews responded to fire in the 6600 block of Forsythia Street around 7:47 p.m. after the owners discovered the blaze upon returning home.
The estimated damage to the home was not known and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
