Team PGFD was victorious Saturday in the Second Annual Public Safety BBQ Cook-Off over the County Police Department.
Top Chef Timothy Dean was part of a panel of 5 judges that awarded Team PGFD and their BBQ Ribs with the victory by a vote of 4 to 1.
Team PGFD also won the public's popular vote by a fairly wide margin. The County Police had held bragging rights for the past year after winning the 2012 event, however, 2013 belongs to the Fire/EMS Department.
Team PGFD head chef was Kirk Ingram, a volunteer chief officer from the District Heights Fire/EMS Station, and career firefighters; Robert Aycock, Rodney Cole and Doug Sudik. Members of Career Recruit School 48 and High School Fire Science Cadets assisted at the well-attended public event.
Dozens of civilian, career and volunteer members of the Fire/EMS Department were on hand to support our BBQ team. The Public Safety BBQ Championship was held in conjunction with a Community Expo at Boulevard at Capital Centre on Saturday, October 5, 2013.
There was a profit, after expenses, of $240 for each team. The Fire/EMS Department will purchase 10-year smoke alarms with their proceeds.
The Fire/EMS Department and Team PGFD would like to thank Noah Supermarket in Clinton, MD, for their generous donation of 2 cases of ribs that were used during this event.
