Two crashes on Interstate 15 Monday morning forced San Bernardino County Fire crews to leave a burning tractor-trailer when serious injuries were reported nearby.
Around 4 a.m. they were called for a report of two semis that collided and callers reported that one caught fire near Baker.
Crews found a truck that was hauling paper fully involved and began attacking the flames.
While crews were working at the scene, they were notified of a second traffic collision just south of their location.
"The truck fire became the second priority. Crews ceased their suppression efforts and made their way south," according to PIO Jeff Allen.
Fire crews arrived with Baker ambulance and found two victims who were injured. It was determined that a helicopter was needed for one of the victims.
A medevac from Mercy Air transported one patient to University Medical Center, Las Vegas.
Additional firefighters responded from the Barstow Marine Corps Logistics Base.
