A Fort Worth fire truck was badly damage in a near head-on collision with a DWI driver.

A Fort Worth fire engine sustained significant damage in a near head-on crash with a drunk driver Monday morning.

A news release from the Fort Worth Fire Department said the crash was a near head-on. The driver of the fire engine said he saw a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and drifted into the oncoming lane. The driver of the pickup truck drifted far into the oncoming lane, forcing the fire truck driver to swerve to the left to avoid a head-on collision rather than to the right.

The vehicle hit the fire truck just behind the rear firefighter's potion and hit with enough force to spin the 44,000 pound vehicle 180 degrees.

Despite the damage to both vehicles, all people involved in the crash were not hurt, according to the news release. The person in the southbound vehicle was arrested at the scene and faces DWI charges.

The firefighters of Station 3 returned to their station and salvaged what equipment they could from the fire engine and were back in service several hours after the crash on a reserve apparatus.
