Prince George's County fire officials evacuated the neighborhood after the crash in Clinton.

A pilot ejected before a plane crashed in a Clinton Wednesday morning.

The F-16 crashed in a wooded area in a neighborhood about two miles from Joint Base Andrews around 9:30 a.m.

"We have reports that there was one pilot on board the aircraft who parachuted out, and has been picked up by a military helicopter and has been taken to an area hospital," Prince George's County Fire spokesman Mark Brady told NBCWashington.com.

Firefighters notified residents in the area of an evacuation due to a possible hazardous material leak.

Kent Roberson, who was driving through the area, heard the crash and then saw fire and smoke.

"I just heard a loud boom...like how a large tree falls and shakes the ground," said Roberson.

Officials said the pilot did not suffer serious injuries.
