For the past seven years the writing, teaching, and investigation of the Firefighter Mayday Doctrine has been significant.
The use of the word Mayday has been debated, national standards and training programs have been developed, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health line of duty death reports address Mayday, and fire departments are training firefighters to call Mayday.
But the work is not done. Local, state, and national organizations are containing the research and development of the firefighter Mayday Doctrine. Dr. Burton A. Clark hosts this roundtable discussion to help firefighters, officers, and chiefs determine if they are ready to call Mayday.
The panelists include: Captain Derik Alkonis of Los Angeles County Fire Department; Assistant Chief Brett R. Bowman of Prince William County, VA, Department of Fire and Rescue; Battalion Chief Greg Collier of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Fire Department and Captain Jesse Wilson of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
