A firefighter-paramedic with a volunteer fire company on New York's Long Island has died in the line of duty.
According to a post on the Facebook page of the Greenlawn Fire Department, firefighter-paramedic M. Kent Stillwagon, 52, died while on duty early Tuesday morning.
The U.S. Fire Administration said in a release that Stillwagon, who was a seven-year veteran of the fire service, had responded to several medical calls on Monday night before he was found at his home shortly after midnight suffering from cardiac arrest.
His colleagues with the Greenlawn department responded and tried valiantly to resuscitate him, but after he was transported to Huntington Hospital and all life-saving measures were attempted, Stillwagon passed away.
"The Greenlawn Fire Department and the residents of our district lost one of the best, most experienced professionals we have," the post reads. "We ask for your prayers and support of the Stillwagon & GFD family during this difficult time."
The website for the M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station says visitation for Stillwagon will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and again from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday before the firefighter is cremated per his wishes.
