A probationary firefighter from a fire district about an hour south of Tucson in Southern Arizona has died following a training exercise.
The Arizona Daily Star reports that firefighter Joshua Eugin was participating in a "blackout" drill with the Saint David Fire District on Wednesday night when he collapsed due to an apparent cardiac event.
Medical personnel on scene immediately began life-saving measures before the 36-year-old Eugin was taken to a hospital where he died several hours later.
Eugin, a former Marine, was described by Officer Mark Bonin as "one of the department's most dedicated members."
"Josh was a great friend and his loss has left a hole in the department," Capt. Jason Todd told the Daily Star.
Eugin is survived by his fiancee Chelsea and daughter Addy.
