MS Firefighter Dies in Response Wreck

Magee firefighter Dustin Grubbs died when his personal vehicle left the roadway and overturned while he was on his way to a fire.

A firefighter from a small city in southern Mississippi was killed over the weekend in a vehicle wreck while he was on his way to a fire.

The U.S. Fire Administration on Monday announced the line-of-duty death of Magee firefighter Dustin Grubbs, who was responding to a structure fire on Saturday when his personal vehicle left the roadway, struck a light pole and overturned.

The 34-year-old volunteer firefighter died at the scene from his injuries.

Grubbs was a two-year veteran of the fire service, and according to WJTV he leaves behind a wife and four children.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Magee before a candlelight vigil will be held at the Magee Fire Department at 7 p.m.

Magee is a city of roughly 4,250 people in Simpson County and is part of the Jackson metro area.
