COVID-19 Claims Life of MS Volunteer Firefighter

A Mississippi volunteer firefighter died from COVID-19 on Monday, the second first responder in that county to lose his life to the virus this week.

Kenneth Rainey, 51, served with the Bridgetown Fire Department for 25 years, according to an update on DeSoto County's Facebook page. Known as "Wormy," Rainey also was a member of DeSoto County EMS.

"He’s remembered as a courageous man who battled until the very end," the county stated.

He was the county's second first responder death from COVID this week. Walls firefighter Dustin Raines, 39, also died Monday from complications from the virus.

"Both men spent countless hours away from their own families to help others in the community," the county stated. "Their service and dedication to DeSoto County will always be remembered."

Rainey was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a driver for Union Auto Parts. He is survived by his parents and four children.
