A longtime West Virginia volunteer firefighter died while responding to a call over the weekend.
Albright Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Charles Wesley “Chuck” Miller Jr. was headed to the station for a call involving a brush fire Sunday, the department stated in an online update. Miller, 62, had been driving his personal vehicle at the time, and he was killed when he went off the road and crashed into a ditch, according to an alert sent Wednesday from the U.S. Fire Administration.
The incident is still under investigation, the agency added.
"Prayers to the family, friends and our community for the loss of one of our own," the town stated in a social media post. "Rest easy Chuck you will be missed by us all."
Miller had served as a firefighter for 29 years, according to the department.
