An Ohio firefighter died Sunday after collapsing at the scene of a fire call.
Jeff Armes, a senior firefighter with the Nelsonville Division of Fire, was part of the response to a structure fire that broke out just after 5 p.m., the department stated in an online update. He collapsed while working at the scene, and firefighters and medics immediately began CPR and advanced life support care.
Armes was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“This is a day that we have all dreaded in our minds," Nelsonville City Manager Scott Frank said in a statement. "We are keenly aware of the dangers (posed to) our public safety professionals, but we all have hoped they would continue to be looked over and protected. Now that tragedy has stricken our City, we must not fall apart but stand strong and band together to support the Armes family and those who are closest to them.”
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
