A veteran Florida fire captain died last month of a heart attack following a call.
Jacksonville Capt. Thomas M. Barber, 51, was part of the response to a medical emergency June 13, the U.S. Fire Administration stated in an alert Tuesday. The next morning, he suffered a cardiac arrest at home and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A veteran of the fire service for more than 20 years, Barber was assigned to Jacksonville's Rescue 25 and had served on the Westside for most of his career, The Florida Times-Union reports. He also had served in the Navy.
Barber is survived by his wife and three children.
