A veteran firefighter on the Mississippi Gulf Coast died of COVID-19 complications after contracting the virus at a fire station while on duty.
The U.S. Fire Administration on Thursday announced the line-of-duty death of Gulfport Fire Department District Chief Marshal Hilley, 53, who succumbed to the virus on Sept. 1 after being infected in early August.
According to USFA, Chief Hilley was a 21-year veteran of the fire service.
