A Yuma volunteer firefighter who was responding to a call in his personal pickup truck Thursday was killed in a crash.
Darcy Stallings, 34, was killed when his truck crashed into a semi-truck. The Colorado State Patrol told 9News.com that Stallings was driving at a high rate of speed when the crash happened.
The pickup was wedged underneath the slow-moving truck that was hauling sugar beets, CBS Denver reported. The truck caught fire and two men aboard the semi were unable to rescue Stallings.
Law enforcement officials said Stallings died at the scene.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time," the fire department shared on their Facebook page. "Darcy was a highly respected firefighter who volunteered for the City of Yuma’s Volunteer Fire Department for 9 years and will be deeply missed."
A funeral service will be held Oct. 26 at the Yuma County Fairgrounds in Yuma at 2 p.m. Internment will follow at the Yuma Cemetery.
