A veteran Indianapolis firefighter died earlier this month from complications related to COVID-19.
The U.S. Fire Administration on Friday announced that Indianapolis firefighter Gerald Brooks, 49, passed away from the virus on Nov. 2 after he was exposed during multiple EMS runs in October.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighter Brooks joined the agency in 2000 and was regularly assigned to B Shift with Ladder 31. He was also a former vice president of the Indianapolis Black Firefighters Association (IBFA). Brooks leaves behind a 17-year-old son and a younger brother.
"As we fondly remember Gerald for his larger than life presence, both on and off the job and his keen sense of humor, please keep Gerald’s son, Station 31 and all of his family in your prayers," the department said in a Facebook post.
