A Hohenwald fire officer who came in contact with a COVID-19 patient at an October incident scene died from COVID-19 complications last week.
Lieutenant Darin Dean Pasold, 52, responded to a vehicle accident on Oct. 15. At the scene, he came in contact with a patient that resulted in him contracting COVID-19.
Pasold passed away Nov. 27, the U.S. Fire Administration reported.
He served 15 years with the Hohenwald Fire Department, located 80 miles southwest of Nashville.
Pasold was born in Nebraska and began his time in the fire service at age 16 with the Scottsbluff Fire Department, according to his obituary. He became a wildland firefighter before joining with Hohenwald.
"There was nothing he enjoyed more than helping the community of Hohenwald," the obituary read. "His bigger than life personality and witty humor made gray skies blue and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face."
