Chicago Firefighter Dies of Injuries Sustained at Fire

Firefighter Mashawn Plummer was critically injured in a deadly apartment fire last week and succumbed to his injuries Tuesday, Chicago Fire officials said.

The Chicago firefighter who was critically injured at last week's fatal apartment fire has died from his injuries.

MaShawn Plummer, 30, suffered "very critical" injuries in an early morning fire on Dec. 16, the Chicago Fire Department shared. The fire on North Marmora in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood left person dead and two others seriously injured. 

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford told CBS Chicago that Plummer died from his injuries Tuesday.

Plummer had been on the fire department just over one year, according to WGN.

In a Sept. 11, 2021 post on his Facebook page, Plummer wrote: "20 years ago I couldn’t predict being apart of something that was so much bigger than me and connected me to so many people. I’m proud to carry on the legacy of those who came before me and honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice," to accompany a photo of him posed next to an FDNY 343 memorial tribute.
