VA Firefighter Succumbs to Medical Event

Lower King & Queen Fire – EMS Firefighter Rory “Bud” Swanson died while working at a department fundraising effort.

Lower King & Queen Fire – EMS firefighter Rory “Bud” Swanson, 70, was involved in a motor vehicle accident and died during a fire department event.

Swanson was working a fundraising event for Lower King & Queen Fire – EMS when the accident occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the U.S. Fire Administration.

Initial reports are that Swanson suffered a medical emergency, which resulted in the motor vehicle accident.

Swanson was an active and dedicated member for almost 15 years. He served as secretary, captain, and fire prevention officer for a time and currently served as chairman of the Ethics Committee, according to a post on the Lower King & Queen Fire - EMS Facebook page, which read, "He was a true example of a dedicated volunteer firefighter and EMT,  and was willing to step in and lend a helping hand at any moment."
