CA Firefighter Killed Working Wildland Operations

Wildland Firefighter Darin Banks, 26, was killed while working wildland operations in Tuolumne County.

Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. Wildland Firefighter Darin Banks died when a tree fell on him during wildland operations in Tuolumne County on May 6.

Banks was part of a Type II Initial Attack Hand Crew working to prepare an area for prescribed burns when the tree fell and struck him, killing him, according to a Facebook post by Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc.

“Our hearts go out to all who knew and loved Darin, and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow,” Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. said in the post.

Banks leaves behind a 4-year-old son, a mother, siblings, grandparents and great-grandparents.

A GoFundMe site has been set up to support firefighter Bank’s family.
