Three FDNY members who worked at the World Trade Center following the Sept. 11 attacks died over Memorial Day weekend.
The deaths come around the 20th anniversary of the last pieces of debris being removed World Trade Center site for eight months while combing through debris for remains.
“The terrorist attacks and the resulting recovery operation continue to claim the lives of many New York City firefighters that answered the call that day and in the months that followed," Uniformed Firefighters Association President Andrew Ansbro told the New York Post.
On Saturday, Robert J. Reynolds, a retired Engine 96 firefighter, passed away. He served the department for 20 years.
Both Supervising Fire Marshal John J. McCauley and firefighter Michael Verzi died Sunday.
Almost 260 FDNY members have died from illnesses borne from working at the World Trade Center site after the 2001 terror attacks.
